Italy now has a new free interactive platform, EViaggio, designed to make life easier for those who travel “electric”, thanks to an initiative by engineer Nicola Carlon.
The platform lets you add destinations and fill in a series of fields that are useful for EV travellers, such as connector type, power output, whether or not the service is free and compatibility with cars of all makes.
On this platform you can also add the property’s Booking.com and TripAdvisor links, precisely because it is always useful to read reviews from “non-electric” users.
What is more, destinations can be reviewed and also claimed. In other words, owners can take over their page on the site, update the information and reply to reviews, just as on the best-known platforms.
The service is completely free for both users and owners: the aim is not profit but to create an open and independent community.
Engineer Nicola Carlon told Electric Motor News:
I am a computer engineer and I have been driving an electric car (Tesla Model 3) for just over a year.
As I travel a lot, including for work, I have often found myself having to choose a hotel with charging so I could travel with peace of mind and avoid stressing the battery with expensive rapid charging.
To choose hotels and restaurants I always rely on booking.com and TripAdvisor, but on both platforms the charging situation is unclear. In particular, I noticed that many hotels that advertise “electric vehicle charging” actually mean bicycles and scooters. But, as we all know, charging all night from a Schuko socket is far from ideal (for safety reasons too).
Once I even discovered that a hotel had listed the charging point in the nearby public car park as its own, and couldn’t even tell me which connectors it had.
In short, I realised there was no way to bring together hotels and restaurants verified by our niche of users (a niche that, fortunately, is getting smaller).
Among the many apps for finding charging points, there was nothing dedicated exclusively to destination chargers, where the owner could also claim their property, update the information and reply to reviews. That is how EViaggio was born.
Engineer Carlon, who conceived, created and developed https://www.eviaggio.it concluded…
The platform is growing but needs everyone’s help to establish itself, in the hope that one day it will no longer be needed because everyone will have a charging point.
